Year of the Dragon

The first day of the 2012 Chinese New Year is on January 23, 2012 in China’s time zone. This day is a new moon day, and is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system. 2012 is the year of Dragon. Some people say 2012 is a Black Dragon or Water Dragon year. This is because the Stem-Branch Calendar is connected to the Five Element theory. Chinese calendars used the Stem-Branch system to count the days, months and years. There are 10 Stems and 12 Branches in this system. Stems are named by the Yin-Yang and Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth). The Stem sequence order is Yang Wood, Yin Wood, Yang Fire, Yin Fire, Yang Earth, Yin Earth, Yang Metal, Yin Metal, Yang Water, and Yin Water. The branch sequence order is Rat, Cow, Tiger, Dragon, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Chicken, Dog, and Pig.

Candy canes and Christmas with 25 L Tuesdays

In the late 1800s, a candy maker in Indiana wanted to express the meaning of Christmas through a symbol made of candy. He came up with the idea of bending one of his white candy sticks into the shape of a Candy Cane. He incorporated several symbols of Christ’s love and sacrifice through the Candy Cane. First, he used a plain white peppermint stick. The color white symbolizes the purity and sinless nature of Jesus. Next, he added three small stripes to symbolize the pain inflicted upon Jesus before His death on the cross. There are three of them to represent the Holy Trinity. He added a bold stripe to represent the blood Jesus shed for mankind. When looked at with the crook on top, it looks like a shepherd’s staff because Jesus is the shepherd of man. If you turn it upside down, it becomes the letter J symbolizing the first letter in Jesus’ name. The candy maker made these candy canes for Christmas, so everyone would remember what Christmas is all about.

Candy Canes hanging from trees, being used as a stirrer in hot chocolate or a decoration on a cake or perhaps as a prop in second life but whatever the use I love candy canes and I love 25 L Tuesday’s especially at Christmas time. This week our sale is for any vendor in the group not limited to just 25 and each creator can put out up to 5 items to sell and boy are we loaded with great values this Tuesday.  So take a quick peek at some of the items that are available and pick up those last minute gifts for your second life family and friends!!

The Christmas Tree and shop shop shopping!!

Long before the advent of Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special meaning for people in the winter. Just as people today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient peoples hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In many countries it was believed that evergreens would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.

In the Northern hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year falls on December 21 or December 22 and is called the winter solstice. Many ancient people believed that the sun was a god and that winter came every year because the sun god had become sick and weak. They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return.

Most people have heard the tale of how Martin Luther, the famous protestant rebel, gave the world the Christmas tree (or in some variations, candles on the Christmas tree). It is not true. The first association of trees with Christmas comes from Saint Boniface in the 7th century AD, when he chopped down a tree sacred to Thor to prove to the local villagers that the Norse gods were not legitimate. By the 15th century people were cutting down trees and putting them in their homes to decorate with sugared fruit and candy and candles. By the time Luther came around, it was a long established tradition.

Christmas for 25 L Tuesday’s is just around the corner only these last two Tuesdays for you to shop and get those presents and decorations for all your friends and second life family. So make sure you get an early start by shopping tomorrow and next Tuesday and think of the lindens you will save by only paying 25 L!!!

November is Autumn time!! And Doncha just love Tuesdays!!!

Autumn
When the trees their summer splendor
Change to raiment red and gold,
When the summer moon turns mellow,
And the nights are getting cold;
When the squirrels hide their acorns,
And the woodchucks disappear;
Then we know that it is autumn,
Loveliest season of the year.
I love the fall and the change of seasons.. the leaves in their different colored wrappers. And I love 25l Tuesday’s…. Where else can you get great deals and be sitting at home while you do it!! Black Friday Facts and a whole lotta pictures!!

Did you know?

The earliest known reference to “Black Friday” is November 29, 1975. The term was mentioned in two separate articles, both with Philadelphia timelines. Therefore, the term Black Friday is believed to have originated in Philadelphia.
“Black Friday” was originally named with deference to other stressful and chaotic days such as Black Tuesday (the day of the 1929 stock market crash.

The generally accepted meaning of “Black Friday” changed November 26, 1982. On that day, ABC News reported that Black Friday is the day that retailers’ ledgers go from red ink to black ink, signaling profit. If this were true, companies like Wal-Mart and Target would show losses in the first three quarters of the years. They don’t.
Black Friday is not the busiest shopping day of the year. #1 is usually the Saturday prior to Christmas.

Once again 25L Tuesdays will be hosting Black Tuesday. You may be familiar with Black Friday which occurs in the US the day after Thanksgiving Day traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Millions of people leave their homes early the Friday morning following Thanksgiving Day in search of special deals and sales hopping to save some money while shopping for Christmas gifts.
Since 25 L Tuesdays is not a Friday sales group, we are going to have our version to this event… called Black Tuesday. We will offer our loyal customers fantastic deals before they head out for the real life Black Friday.
